Year 2 Grade Mass and Blessing of families in preparation for First Reconciliation
The OLSS Year 2 Students will celebrate their grade mass on Saturday 31st October.
Year 2 children and their parents will fulfil ministry for reading, offertory and welcoming for this Mass. The Mass will also include the blessing of families as their sons and daughters commence preparation for the sacrament of Reconciliation. All families from OLSS and the Catechist classes who will be making their reconciliation this year are asked to attend a Mass over the weekend of 31/10, 1/11 to receive their family blessing and introduce their son or daughter to Father. Families can contact forresterdd@bigpond.com if they have any questions.
Year 2 families who attend the Saturday 5.30pm Mass are asked to bring a plate to share afterwards.
The Sacrament of Reconciliation
The Sacrament of Reconciliation will be celerabted between 5pm and 7.30pm on 24 November at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church.
A parent information evening will be held on October 20 in the Parish Centre at 7pm. The classes for preparation will take place on Sunday, November 1, 8, 15 and 22, between 9 and 10am. A parent is required to attend each of these preparation classes with their child. Any enquires, contact Fr Kelvin on 9525 1448.
Mission Sunday
On Sunday 1st November, we will be celebrating Mission Sunday. I would invite all parishioners to donate whatever they can to the Mission collection which will take place during Mass. Place the donation in the envelope provided on your seat, and put it on either collection during Mass.

Reception of Holy Communion
The Archdiocese has indicated that it is now possible, because the threat of swine flu has now passed, to receive Holy Communion under both kinds. As from this weekend, we will return to our normal practice of receiving Holy Communion under both kinds.
I would like to raise two issues related to Holy Communion:
1. Parishioners should not 'dip' the host into the precious blood when receiving Holy Communion. The Australian Bishops Conference has issued this directive on the basis of spillage of the Precious Blood and some health issues. So I would ask you rather than 'dip' to sip from the chalice.
2. A number of people from different faith backgrounds attend Mass each Sunday. As they cannot receive Holy Communion, I would invite them to come forward to the priest celebrating Mass and receive a blessing. Parishioners who would like their children to receive a blessing may like to come to the priest for a blessing as well.
